#Soiree Role: Segment Producer – Favors/Ephemera
Biography: Mention “paper” to Vickie and watch her eyes mist over. Because, accomplished as this artist is across a multitude of media, paper is her fascination. Her folly. Her fetish, even. How perfect then, that Vickie should be in charge of constructing paper party favors for the #Soiree.
Vickie has been making art for as long as she could hold a crayon—a passion fostered, in both her and her inseparably close twin sister, by their encouraging father and inspiring mother—and her work has been exhibited in several galleries in Rochester, New York. It’s here that her studio is located, in a spare bedroom in her house. Which means that Vickie gets to work all day on her current obsession—creating jewelry from upcycled game pieces such as dominoes and Scrabble tiles—in her pajamas. Surrounded by paper, of course. But watch this space: it’s this ambitious artisan’s aspiration to dazzle the world with innumerable solo gallery shows.
Notwithstanding the enjoyment Vickie derives from her creative pursuits, it has a serious side too: Vickie believes strongly in art as therapy. “Creativity and art have pulled me through the hardest parts of my life,” she says.
Vickie lives with her best friend and confidant of 20 years, the two having only recently discovered that true love existed all that time. It’s a veritable “happily ever after” story!
